Lanterns and Flashlights
A smart camper lets his/her camping situation dictate what portable light source they are going to need on their camping trip. A camping scenario which involves lots of people and several tents would require an area light such as a lantern to provide light for social/eating areas and to brighten up tents. On the other hand, backcountry hikers are going to carry compact lights like flashlights and headlamps to save on space and weight.
Flashlights and Headlamps-
- These compact, lightweight and easy to use lights are far and away the most popular lights used by campers. Both types of lights are battery powered and are designed to focus the light where ever you point it.
- Today's lights are designed to be lightweight and brighter. The advanced technology of LED and Xenon halogen offer more illumination and are longer lasting.
- One advantage of the headlamp over the flashlight is the ability to have the use of both hands and still direct light where you need it. This help you campers that got to your camp site late and are trying to setup your tent in the dark.
Lanterns Gas/Liquid/Battery
- Nothing brings a campsite to life like a few well placed lanterns. Designed to light up a large area, these lights are perfect for long stays and large groups.
- Lanterns are considerably larger then other light options and chew up precious storage. Whether you choose a gas or battery operated lantern, plan on packing in extra fuel or batteries. This means more storage space.
Candle Lanterns
- Good old fashioned candle light. Great for campers looking for a long lasting and affordable light source. These lanterns are a great way to light up your tent or the picnic table when you need a long lasting moderate light.
